GBARC provides Advocacy,
Family Support, Public Education, Information and Referral. Our
mission is promoting the inclusion of persons with mental
retardation in the life of the community.
Everett Chapter
GBARC's Everett Chapter puts on a show every November. This is our 31st year and we're going strong.
Each year, quality local performers put together a play or review of song and dance. And don't forget the laughs!
The money raised from these performances provides services for local families.
A Short History of GBARC
In 1945, ten mothers of retarded citizens banded together to form the Association for the Advancement of Mentally Retarded Handicapped Children which later became the Greater Boston Association for Retarded Citizens.
They felt that by working together they could develop community programs and keep their children occupied during the day.
As in the past, the combined efforts of the membership and the staff members resulted in the funding of programs and services.
